Why choose "Ready to Fly" as your off-apparatus workout class

Ready to Fly

Your sport is unique, and your off apparatus training should reflect that

With the pandemic forcing aerialists and pole dancers to move their training onto the ground, and the massive shift to online fitness classes over the past year, choosing the best class to do in your living room can sometimes feel like scrolling endlessly through Netflix, looking for a good series to binge. It can be difficult to determine which sources are reliable, and which classes will best help you meet your fitness goals. Among these lists, somewhere in the Sports-Specific training category, is our “Ready to Fly” class. But what is Ready to Fly? And what makes it so special?

“It can be used to help combat the high reversibility of aerial training while taking time off the apparatus, or to complement your ongoing aerial training to prevent muscular imbalances.”

Ready to Fly is a full-body workout, focusing on aerial specific strengthening skills, injury prevention, and muscular endurance; all presented in a small group fitness class format. It can be used to help combat the high reversibility of aerial training while taking time off the apparatus, or to complement your ongoing aerial training to prevent muscular imbalances. The best part? It is a all-levels class, accessible regardless of your current aerial knowledge or fitness level, so your roommate who just wants to dip their toes into fitness for the first time can follow along for a great full-body workout, without needing to perform lyra for Cirque du Soleil.

Each Ready to Fly class includes every primal movement pattern: Squat, lunge, push, pull, hinge (bending), rotation (twisting), and gait. This ensures we have a solid foundation for movement, on which we can safely build all of our cool ninja skills.

“You, however, are an aerialist… You are a glittery ninja butterfly who needs a specialized workout program to meet the extreme demands of your sport.”

But, I can hear you saying, what makes this different from my CrossFit or Goodlife class? Does my yoga class not include all of these important components as well? Well yes, they likely do. They are fantastic workouts, which have also been designed by professionals in the fitness industry. They are great for the general population who want to stay fit and active. You, however, are an aerialist. You are no longer the general population. You are a glittery ninja butterfly who needs a specialized workout program to meet the extreme demands of your sport. The general population does not need to have the strength to invert and climb, or the active mobility to execute that upside down front split in the air while holding their body weight with one arm.

This brings us to the biggest difference between Ready to Fly classes and your 5K morning run: Specificity. You will only get better at what you train. Your 100lb squat will not help you hold an Iron X. But Ready to Fly can!

“Your sport is unique, and your off apparatus training should reflect that.”

Ready to Fly replicates the cardiovascular demands of aerial and pole classes, training the energy systems used in our regular apparatus training. We break down both foundational and nemesis aerial skills, and work on the specific strength and mobility required to achieve them. We work on skills to help develop body awareness, to refine that mental skill for when we return to the studio to figure out our Inverted Pretzel Spin. We prevent imbalances by training the muscle groups which are often neglected in pole and aerials. This is all achieved through easy to learn at-home exercises, with no formal gym equipment required. By consistently taking this class, we can ease your transition back onto the apparatus after some time away, or allow you to focus your on-apparatus training for more skill work.

Your sport is unique, and your off apparatus training should reflect that. By choosing a workout program designed by aerialists for aerialists, you can feel confident that your training will include the specific exercises you need to improve your performance in the air.
